Family Phasianidae
Relatives of the domestic chicken. Members of this family are primarily cursorial. Most movement occurs via walking. Flight is normally over short distances. Phasianids typically forage on the ground for food.
The Phasianidae family
- tend to have short but broad, rounded wings. Capable of explosive take offs; however, flight distances and intervals are short.
- are primarily herbivorous, but will consume insects when available.
- have long toes adapted for scratching for seeds and strong bills adapted to nipping vegetation.
