Family Bovidae
Members of the Bovidae family are strict herbivores, with species falling on a continuum from browsers to grazers. Species within this family exhibit horns that are carried for life, do not branch and are often found on both sexes. Bovids have four chambers that start off the extensive digestive tract. Bacterial fermentation aids in the digestion of a high cellulose diet.
The Bovidae family
- generally live in open habitats such as grasslands, tundra and alpine regions.
- have two toes on each leg, covered by a keratinized hoof.
